Department of Community Medicine
INTRODUCTION
Department of Community Medicine aims at improving the health awareness and making health as a valued asset for which the medical student are exposed at primary care centers where essential health care is available to individuals and families in their own setting in an acceptable and affordable way.
The Department of Community Medicine has well qualified professional and supporting staff with vast teaching, research and training experience. Utilizing all available modern teaching tools, the department of community medicine arranges small groups of learning sessions, clinical rotations as well a full class lectures as an indoor academic program. In outdoor teaching program the students are exposed to communities at primary health care center where they learn agent, host, and environment relationship in causation of disease at the socio economics environment of the patients.
Students are also trained in the fundamental of research by taking them to communities where they carry out a survey and collect base line data on various prevalent public health problems. They are also taken to the public health sites for the purpose of field visit so as to see and learn cost effective technology used for providing the health services to the communities. In all teaching programs the emphasis is given to health education, health promotion and prevention of disease.
The central skills laboratory is used to supplement the teaching of many of these skills. The college also has a library as well as an attached learning resource centre with a number of books, Medical Journals and other teaching aids as computers, CD’s and videos.
