Department of Molecular Pathology
INTRODUCTION
Established in year 2007, Department of Molecular Pathology is contributing significantly towards the vision & mission of Liaquat National Hospital. The idea behind the establishment was to provide quality diagnostic services, at affordable rates and in reach of every one.
EQUIPMENTS
Equipped with the state of the art technology, the fleet of instruments includes Roche COBAS Amplicor automated PCR, Corbett Research Rotor Gene Q five Channel Fluorescent Quantitative Real Time PCR, Class II A2 Biosafety Cabinets, high Speed centrifuges with sealed rotor etc.
All tests are performed under strict quality control (No open bench Practice) by highly qualified and trained staffand reported to meet the quality standards established in Molecular testing.
SERVICES
Molecular Pathology unit is offering Complete Viral Hepatitis panel including Hepatitis C Virus Qualitative, Quantitative Real Time PCR and Genotyping PCR, Hepatitis B virus Qualitative and Quantitative Real Time PCR. These tests are performed on IVD and CE marked assays.
Hospital as well as Laboratory administration is well aware of recent development in the field of molecular Pathology and would like to share the fruits of latest development The proposed list of new parameters, expected to be launched shortly, include HSV1 & 2 PCR, Dengue PCR, HDV PCR and MTB PCR. Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) testing for Her-2 gene amplification and Bcr-abl translocation testing will also be available shortly.
ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES
The department is also certified with College of American Pathologist (CAP).The department is also contributing in 4 year Degree programs in Diagnostic Lab Sciences and Medical Technology affiliated with University of Karachi.
