INTRODUCTION

Skills Lab, Liaquat National Hospital, Pakistan’s first and fully equipped skills lab established in 1996.The initial aim of the lab was to train only LNH’s doctors and staff in Basic Life Support (BLS).”The positive response and feedback we got from the trained doctors and staff encouraged us to introduce new courses as well. In 2002, new courses were started for limited candidates from institutions e.g. DMC, SMC and FJDC. Lab now proudly offers certified training courses in life saving techniques. Supervised by certified and experienced instructors and are conducting in line with American Heart Association guideline on regular basis.

SERVICES
Courses Offered:

-Basic Life Support (Adult & Paediatric)

Objectives
  - To train candidates how to save life of a collapse victim
  - To emphasize the importance of effective as well as efficient CPR
  - To have best outcome of sudden emergencies by minimizing morbidity as well as mortality
     
Key Features
  - Revascularization of an adult/pediatric cardiac arrest victim.
  - Video based practice of effective CPR.
  - Relieving of foreign body airway obstruction in adult/pediatric victims.
  - Use of manual and automated defibrillator.

 

- Advanced Airway Management:
Weekly session including lectures and practice on adult and pediatrics mannequins as well as live intubations.

Objectives
  - Successfully securing airway to maintain oxygenation in nconscious/semiconscious victim.
   
     
Key Features
  - Proper techniques of laryngoscopy.
  - Correct placement of Endotracheal tube/LMA & Combitube
  - Importance of pre-oxygenation
  - Primary /secondary confirmation.
  - How to secure endotracheal tube.
  - Use of Laryngeal masks airway/combine

 

- E.C.G interpretation:

  - Comprehensive session on basis E.C.G interpretation, arrhyrhmias and ischemic chances
  - Two days intense ECG course
 
Objectives
  - To train hospital staff’s especially of emergency department, for recognition of life threatening arrthymias so that urgent crucial steps can be taken out patient’s management.

  - Interpretation and basic of ECG.
  - Ischemic change in ECG.
  - Bradyarrythmias.
  - Tacyarrthmias.

- First Aid

Objectives
  - To train candidates in basic correct interventions when dealing acute emergencies.
To encourage the training of mass population in First Aid to decrease morbidity and mortality and enhance survival of victim before arrival to the hospital.
   
     
Key Features
  - First hand information regarding acute management of Medical emergencies e.g. allergic reactions, chest pain, breathing difficulties.
  - Injury emergencies e.g.
  - Shock/bleeding.
  - Bone/Muscle injuries.
  - Trauma.
  - Burns.
  - Environmental emergencies e.g. chemical / temperature injuries, animal / insect bites, snake bites, etc.
