The Department of Nephrology forms an integral part of the patient care services provided at LNH. It has a twenty seven bedded ward, nine bedded ICU and a very active hemodialysis unit. Five kidney transplants have so far been performed with collaboration of SIUT and attempts are underway to develop our own indigenous program.
HEMODIALYSIS UNIT
The department of Nephrology comprises of a separate unit of Haemodialysis, which provides round the clock service, seven days a week for chronic haemodialysis as well as acute emergency dialysis. Dialysis unit comprises of 16 Hemodialysis machines. Unit is staffed with well-trained nurses and technicians. Every patient is screened for Hepatitis B and C on first visit. There are separate machines for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and non-reactive patients, which is an added benefit to the patients as it protects them from acquiring hepatitis during dialysis. Peritoneal dialysis is also offered in our unit. During dialysis, rounds are done by fellows and consultant.
