Department of Paediatrics & Neonatology
INTRODUCTION

The Department of Paediatric at LNH was established in October 1969 with 15 beds. Over the years, the Department has grown substantially, both in terms of faculty and the patient turnover. It now consists of a general Paediatric unit with 55 beds and a neonatal unit with 13 incubators and cots. Neonatal intensive care unit has well trained nurses, paramedical staff, and 24 hours laboratory and x-ray services. It has radiant warmers, incubators, several phototherapy units as well as respirators for mechanical ventilation. There is 4-bed Paediatric intensive care unit and 6 beds for high dependency care for children beyond the age of 1 month to 14 years.

SERVICES

Paediatric ward consist of 5 cubicles out of which one is exclusively assigned for pediatric surgical cases. There are 8 semi-private wards within the Paediatric ward. Besides general Paediatric patients, all Paediatric patients requiring Neurosurgical, Orthopaedics, plastic surgery etc. are admitted in Paediatric ward and a collaborative care is given by Paediatric physicians and surgeons.
Paediatric Emergency Department is 24 hours, 365 days service available with nursing and Paediatric RMO’s available 24 hours.
The Paediatric sub specialties include services for Psychiatry, Cardiology and Dermatology.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

The Department of Paediatric is recognized by PMDC and CPSP for postgraduate training for MCPS, and FCPS. Several Pediatricians have been trained at LNH who they are contributing to the healthcare of children of this country. LNH is also attached with LNMC for teaching of undergraduates.

Department of Paediatrics is involved in the CME activities of the Hospital as well as Pakistan Paediatrics Association (PPA), Polio eradication program of Government of Pakistan, acute flaccid paralysis surveillance program of WHO, lactation management program of Government of Pakistan, WHO and UNICEF.
