Brief History of Nursing Education at Liaquat National Hospital.

School of Nursing was established at Liaquat National Hospital in 1981. Initially, School of Nursing started 3 years Diploma in General Nursing program for male nurses and got the recognition from Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) in 1981 for 100 seats. In 1982, Diploma in Pupil Midwifery (18 months program) was started.

Another important step in the history of School of Nursing was the establishment of its female wing in September 2002. In September 2004, Evening School of Nursing for both male and female students was started. In 2005, one year Nurse Midwifery Training program was introduced.

To cope up acute shortage and increasing demands of competent nurses at national and international level, Liaquat National Hospital has initiated college of Nursing in July 2005. The first of its program was Post RN BScN Degree which was affiliated with Karachi University.

In 2008, Liaquat National College of Nursing got the affiliation with Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro, Sindh, Pakistan for Post RN BScN program (two years) and BScN program (four years).

For both of these programs, College of Nursing has applied for the registration process with Pakistan Nursing Council. PNC approval has been obtained to start BScN program.
