Eligibility Criteria

The International Elective Program at Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) is open to:

  • Undergraduate medical students (in clinical years)
  • Postgraduate medical trainees
  • Fresh graduates (from healthcare sector) who wish to enhance their clinical knowledge and skills
  • High school students (with pre-medical background)

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in or graduated from a recognized healthcare institution outside Pakistan and be in good academic standing, OR be enrolled in pre-medical high school programs
  • All applicants should provide documentation of their current training status or proof of graduation, along with a letter of recommendation or good standing from their institution.
  • Must be fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to the elective start date and provide proof of the following immunizations:
    • Hepatitis B Vaccination
    • Hepatitis C Screening/Vaccination (as applicable)

Incomplete applications will not be considered. If one of the electives you requested is available, you will be informed through email, but providing each step of the application updates is not possible.

Elective Calendar


We recommend that you submit your application six months before the start of your chosen elective. The latest you can apply is four weeks prior to the start of the desired elective.
* Please do not submit your application more than six months prior to your earliest elective date.

What is the Scope of the Electives Program at LNH?


  • During the stay at LNH in the chosen speciality, the visiting student will be exposed to a multicultural, high-volume, patient-centred care environment.
  • Every visiting student will be assigned a faculty member of the chosen department, who will be a "mentor" and will facilitate all aspects of learning along with continuous feedback.
  • LNH has established a “buddy” system for international visiting students to help them get accustomed to the local environment. Buddy will be a student of the same level and will facilitate visiting students paired with him/ her.
  • Visiting students during their electives will be part of the routine medical class, he/she will be expected to attend rounds, clinical meetings, journal club, etc., and clerk patients in OPD under supervision.
  • Elective students will be given the opportunity to scrub/assist in surgical cases and are expected to follow hospital protocol.
  • LNH aims to ensure full hands-on opportunities for its electives to enhance their overall learning experience.


How to Apply for Clinical Electives at LNH?

  • Register yourself at VISE Portal
  • Submit your application form available after registering.
  • Additional required document (scanned as single PDF file) to be uploaded along with your application's verification from institution (form) etc.
  • Please complete the application form linked above and submit in the order listed here.
  • Refer to the List of Electives and application dates; please select three (3) electives and three (3) dates according to priority, and, as stated on the application. List the NAMES of your preferred electives, or your application will be returned.
  • List of Required Documents:
    • Letter of Good Standing signed and dated by school authority in previous three (3) months
    • One photo graph
    • Copy of passport
    • Attach copy of Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate.
    • Attach proof of the following:
      • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
      • HCV Antibody
      • Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (A complete record of Hepatitis B vaccination required, if Hepatitis B Surface Antibody is non-reactive)

Incomplete applications will not be considered. If one of the electives you requested is available, you will be informed through email, but providing each step of the application updates is not possible.

  • There is a non-refundable application processing fee of $50 USD due at the time of application.
  • Elective fees are $200 USD for a two-week elective, and $300 USD for a four-week elective.
  • Visiting elective students can spend up to two months for clinical electives.
  • Mode of Payment: The application processing Fee and Elective Fee can be submitted via Online bank Transfers. The details are as follows:

Accepted students of the electives in MBBS will be required to obtain a visa in order to visit Pakistan. Students should apply for a visa after receiving the electives approval letter.

Visiting students for electives are required to have an appropriate visa from the Pakistani High Commission in their country. Government of Pakistan has introduced online visa application process. https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/tourist-visit-visas/.

Your supporting document for visa will be our acceptance letter along with your own personal documents required by NADRA online portal.

Code of Conduct

  • Visiting international students are subject to the same rules and regulations that apply to Liaquat National Hospital & Medical College’s (LNMC) students. Satisfactory academic/clinical performance and professional conduct determine registration and continued participation in electives.
  • Students must follow all the rules and regulations of Liaquat National Hospital. While the student is on the elective placement, the Hospital is not responsible or liable for any accident or harm that may be caused directly or indirectly, on or off the Hospital premises.
  • If a student's behaviour, performance, or language skills is unsatisfactory, it may lead to administrative withdrawal from the program and the student return home.
  • Elective Students in all settings are expected to dress in a simple, decent, and appropriate manner.
  • Reporting for the electives on time and using appropriate written and oral expression in all interactions with Hospital personnel, managers, supervisors, employees, the public, and clients.
  • Engaging in positive, good, and legal behaviour.
  • Observing all established safety and sanitation codes.
  • Participating in all relevant orientation or testing required by the Institute.
  • Electives students individually or as a group will refrain from engaging in any activity which hinders or prevents the participation of another person or group of persons in any of the activities of the Hospital.
  • Electives students will refrain from any behaviour that will cause damage to Hospital property.
  • Electives will ensure that their actions do not in any way threaten or endanger the health, safety, or security of other persons or imperil the latter’s properties.
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding information accessed on any patients, clients, members, employees, and products or services associated with the Institute.
  • Taking pictures of patients and ongoing services in the institute and posting them on social media is not only unethical but also against institutional policy and is liable to legal action if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hospital is not responsible for the arrangement of housing and transportation services. However, there are limited rooms in the mess/hostel available for these electives program, and they can be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.
